Developmental Edit

The Developmental Edit assesses all aspects of your full MS, including plot, pacing, characters, tension peaks, writing techniques, and marketability. This service includes a developmental critique (approx. 8–10 pages), followed by a 60-minute brainstorm with your editor post-report. This service is ideal if you have agent or publisher interest, are on the cusp of being published, or are looking for a deep editorial dive. The turnaround time for reports is 6 weeks. This is mostly suitable for completely written manuscripts (MSS); if you have a work in progress, we’d recommend a batch of workshopping hours.

Submission package review

We’d recommend booking in for 6 Workshopping hours to cover a submission package review. This will look at your query letter, 1-page synopsis and first 3 chapters – or up to 30 double-spaced pages – to assess whether your package is ready to send to an agent or editor.

Workshopping

If you are looking for one-on-one support that puts you directly in touch with your editor, workshopping is a great option and you can use it however you want, whether that’s reading your full MS or just a few scenes; re-reading revisions, marking-up your manuscript, working through show not tell; brainstorming your plot and character arcs; or preparing your submission package.

A submission package review is available through a number of workshopping hours, please contact the office for a quote.

Line editing

A line edit involves a close read of your most polished draft, where an editor will redline and mark-up your pages. Every sentence will be scrutinised, and the editor will, among other things, mark-up any language that doesn’t work, run-on sentences, inconsistencies, weak passages, make cuts to unnecessary scenes or dialogue, etc.
